Dog Training

At Southern Cross Vet Clinic in the heart of St Peters, right near Marrickville, we run fun and educational popular puppy classes for our little friends to help get them get started on the right track and assist the new family in understanding their puppy so they can establish good manners and continue it through to adulthood.

All classes are held right here at the clinic in St Peters and run for one hour each week over a 4-week programme.  The classes are kept to a maximum of 4 puppies to ensure that everyone gets valuable individual attention and puppies only need to have had their first vaccination to enrol.  Bookings are essential.

Our classes are designed and conducted by Shelley Aukett who is a fully qualified trainer completing the Delta Society’s Canine Good Citizen Behavioural Dog Training Course (Cert IV in Companion Animal Services).

Puppies learn very fast and so we need to incorporate the whole family into learning quickly too, by ensuring all puppy owners know the best techniques to stop undesirable puppy behaviours early on, e.g. biting, chewing, barking, jumping etc.

We also teach our puppies acceptable manners in a safe and friendly environment and make sure that they take home with them the basic manners such as ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘come’ etc. amongst other important behaviours.

Every puppy owner gets to take home with them a printed folder filled with resources and information to help them manage difficult times and troublesome issues that may come up in their dogs lifetime.  Another benefit of puppies attending these valuable classes is socialising with other puppies – Along with meeting other puppies around the same age, they may be lucky enough to meet ‘Arnold’ the clinic’s resident cat who likes to pop in every now and then to check that the puppies are all settling down and listening to the trainer.
