This page sets out exactly what the fixed price package includes, how it compares to other BOAS surgery options in Sydney, what pet insurance typically covers, and answers the questions owners most commonly ask when researching brachycephalic surgery cost in Australia.
Researching BOAS surgery costs in Australia reveals a consistent problem: pricing is rarely transparent.
Some clinics list no prices at all. Others advertise a starting price before adding separate charges for specialist anaesthetic monitoring, hospitalisation beyond one night, follow-up appointments, and discharge medications.
At Southern Cross Vet, we offer a fixed $4999 price for BOAS surgery, regardless of breed or size.
The package covers every stage of your dog's surgical care with no surprise invoices at discharge for any of the items listed below.
Same price for all breeds and sizes and we give you a written confirmation before any consent is signed.

Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome affects dogs selectively bred for short, flat skulls. Their compressed anatomy leaves a normal volume of soft tissue in a reduced space, which restricts airflow through the nose, throat, and upper airway.
Without surgical correction, BOAS is progressive: the sustained effort required to breathe through an obstructed airway causes secondary changes including everted laryngeal saccules and, in severe cases, laryngeal collapse. Breeds most commonly treated at Southern Cross Vet include:
Signs that your dog may benefit from a BOAS assessment include:
Because BOAS is progressive, early surgical correction generally produces better outcomes and a less complex procedure than waiting until secondary changes develop.
We know French bulldogs and their quirks – in fact, they are our # 1 breed, and we see over 5,000 French Bulldogs every year!
Several Sydney clinics now offer fixed price BOAS surgery. The Southern Cross Vet package includes commitments that other vet clinics either charge separately for, or do not offer at all.
Our surgeons have developed and refined airway correction techniques that many other practices are still catching up with. That depth of brachycephalic experience makes a real difference for multi-level corrections and complex anatomy. We have been doing this at SCV for 10 years with exceptional results.
Recovery is managed personally by Dr Sam from the first post-operative check right through until your dog is breathing comfortably. No hand-offs, no middlemen, and no additional fees for any follow-up visit.
You receive Dr Sam's personal contact details for the recovery period. If you have a concern at any hour, you reach him directly. No call centres, no waiting for messages to be relayed through reception.
Every surgery addresses the complete airway: stenotic nares, elongated soft palate, everted laryngeal saccules, and any other contributing anatomy. Tailored specifically to your dog, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Oliver, a charming 4-year-old French Bulldog from a suburb in Sydney, had been struggling with noisy breathing, particularly during warmer weather, and his family had become increasingly concerned. He would often snort loudly and seemed to tire easily on his walks.
Following BOAS surgery at Southern Cross Vet, his owners were amazed by the immediate improvement. Oliver's sleep became peaceful and quiet, he had significantly more energy throughout the day, and the frequent breathing difficulties had drastically reduced.
His recovery was smooth, aided by a tailored post-operative care plan and regular check-ups with the veterinary team. Now, Oliver is back to enjoying long strolls in the park and participating much more enthusiastically in playtime with his human companions, his tail wagging with newfound comfort.
Coco, a spirited 7-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was brought to Southern Cross Vet in Sydney due to her persistent noisy breathing, especially when excited.
Her owners were concerned that her panting seemed excessive even during mild play. Following a comprehensive examination by Dr Sam Kovac, Coco was found to have stenotic nares (narrowed nostrils) and a slightly thickened soft palate, contributing to her Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS)
Dr Sam performed a delicate, minimally invasive surgery to widen her nostrils and shorten her soft palate. The improvement was noticeable very quickly. Within a couple of days, Coco's breathing was much quieter and more relaxed. Her owners were thrilled to see her enjoying her walks without becoming winded so easily.
A week after her surgery, Coco was back to her full, playful self, chasing balls in the park with much more ease and comfort, much to the relief and joy of her loving family.
