Desexing your pet

We do our best to make the uncomfortable more comfortable

In females, this refers to the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus. In males, desexing refers to the removal of the testicles. These procedures are also known as speying or spaying in females and castration in males.

Animals must undergo a general anaesthetic for this procedure, but the recovery is generally rapid and most pets go home the same day. You will receive special pain killing medication for your pet to go home with. If you’d like to get your dog or cat desexed at our clinic please call us on 9516 0234 or email us at [email protected]

Why my Cat needs Desexing

  • Avoid unnecessary pregnancies
  •
Less likely to be hit by a car as they will roam less
  • Many people notice an improvement in behaviour
  •
Increased life span (females less susceptible to breast cancer and reproductive tumours; males are less susceptible to prostate, testicular and other cancer)
  • Less likely to get into fights with other animals.

Why choose Southern Cross Veterinary as your Pet Desexing Authority

  1. Our state-of-the-art anaesthesia system = safer surgeries, better quality recoveries.
Unlike any other veterinary clinic in Sydney, Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic shares the same GE anaesthesia machines found in human hospitals like St Vincents and Prince of Wales Hospitals.
These anaesthetic machines monitor every step of the anaesthesia and gives second-by-second recordings of your pets vital signs to ensure the correct depth of anaesthesia and to avoid anaesthetic related complications.
We’ve invested in these machines because we believe that anaesthesia is one of the most important areas of veterinary medicine for your pet and therefore it should be carried out in the safest, most controlled way possible.
  2.  Value
We offer the most competitively priced desexing in the local area.
  3. Pharmacy
Our hospital pharmacy stocks a complete range of pain killers and anti inflammatories so that your pet will get a customised pain relief plan after recovery from the anaesthetic.
  4. Recovery room
Our plush recovery room features piped-in music to decrease post-surgical anxiety. Cats and dogs are also recovered separately.
  5. Compassion
Our vets and nurses were hand selected and demonstrate a high level of compassion. We provide an after-hours phone number should you have any concerns that may arise during the evening.
